Join art historian Kate Butler for a richly illustrated talk exploring the snowdrop as a symbol in art, belief, and visual culture from around the world. From pagan festivals marking the return of light at Imbolc, to Christian iconography of purity and consolation, Victorian mourning art, and contemporary ecological responses, this talk reveals how a small winter flower has carried powerful meanings across centuries.

Set against the backdrop of Cambo Estate and the National Snowdrop Collection, Whispers of Winter invites audiences to see the snowdrop not just as a botanical treasure, but as a quiet, enduring presence in art and human imagination.
