2026 marks 10 years of World Otter Day, set up by the International Otter Survival Fund to drive awareness of the 14 otter species around the world and their conservation issues. As part of this year’s celebrations, Fife-based otter conservation organisation Lutra Grampia is hosting a full week of events, culminating in a final weekend of activities in the perfect setting of Cambo Estate, Kingsbarns.
On both Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May, Otter Ecology Walks will set off at 10.30am from Cambo Gardens, then following a route along Cambo Burn and down onto the beach. We’ll look out for otter field signs along the way, discuss their ecology, behaviour and conservation and consider how it all fits into the local area and how the estate is managed for wildlife. Bring along all of your burning otter related questions and your binoculars, and dress appropriately for the weather. We’ll finish up back at Cambo Gardens at 12pm. Children under 16 go free with a paying adult and a discounted rate is in place for students. Tickets can be booked from https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1989022063535 (Friday) and https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1989021603158 (Saturday). Ticket prices are inclusive of a donation to Cambo Heritage Trust.
Also on Saturday 30 May, there’ll be a Wildlife Artists Pop Up featuring, among others, Amanda Buchanan Hutchison of Little Wren Studio and ceramicist Lizzie Ann Design between 12pm and 4pm. The Pop Up is free to attend, during your visit to Cambo, and you’ll have plenty of time to browse the artists’ work and maybe take something special home with you.
Finally, on Sunday 31 May, there’ll be a special guest appearance from illustrator, author and storyteller Gillian Eilidh O’Mara in Cambo’s popular Sunday Stay and Play session from 10.30am. Set against a river backdrop and a brand new otter folk tale, we will be creating river character puppets to set to the story. Fun and interactive with an underlying conservation message, it will be the perfect activity to round out the extended World Otter Day celebrations. To book your child’s place at Stay & play book by using the calendar to the right, select 10.30am and ticketed area. This is a free activity
